Descripton One of the issues that women complain about is their lack of a voice in the work place, of not being taken seriously. We also frequently suffer from a reluctance to say "no" in the mistaken belief that by being all things to all people we will progress more rapidly (or because we feel that if we do say no people will think less of us). As a result we often take on more than we can efficiently cope with and end up working overlong hours, or performing poorly - to the detriment of our health and our career. So how do you get your voice heard? How do you say "no" gracefully, but firmly, when you are asked to do something that you believe you will not be able to successfully deliver to the timescales demanded? And, if you feel obliged to say "yes", then how do you negotiate effectively so that you still end up in a win-win situation? Our guest speaker, Lisa Porter, will tell you how.

Descripton When you are thinking of running your own business, some of the concerns that arise are those to do with tax and national insurance. To help you get to grips with these and other issues relating to tax regulations, Vijay Chadha from HMRC will talk you through the main areas - such as how you register with HMRC, what National Insurance you will be paying, Income Tax rates, the types of records you are expected to keep, business expenses (what is allowable and what is not allowable) and, importantly, when you will be required to file your first tax return. Unfortunately, tax has to be paid - and avoidance (even if unintentional) can be a costly mistake. So come along and find out the facts from a reliable expert.

Descripton What is the difference between goals and targets - what are they for and how do you use them to help you succeed in your chosen career. What does prioritising really mean? We all know that there is a real difference between urgent and important, but how do you deal with the conflict this can cause? How do you integrate into a male dominated workplace where targets (rather than outcomes) are so important? And how do you integrate work and 'life' - bringing it all together in order to experience more 'success' in your lives as a whole, however you choose to define success? To help you get to grips with these tricky questions our guest speaker for this workshop, Joolz Lewis (The Corporate Hippy), will give you her unique and thought-provoking observations as well as helping you with the 'how to'.
