Brunel Entrepreneurs had the privilege of watching Mike Southon give an extremely energetic and inspiring presentation about how to be successful as an entrepreneur. Mike Southon took us on a journey, using the The Beatles as an example, to explain how to overcome the challenges we will face along the way.
Mike started off with a brief introduction of himself as a highly successful entrepreneur who has also worked with Goldmans Sachs, Accenture and Glaxo Smith Klein. Known as the beermat entrepreneur, he is one of UK's best motivational speakers as well as a Financial Times Columnist.
He began the presentation with a brief overview of the seven year cycle of life, within which he mentioned the years of being 21 to 28 is when we should try as many things as possible, i.e. selling, delivery and production. Throughout, Mike emphasized the importance of trying to build your wealth, as opposed to aiming to increase revenue. He cleverly highlighted critical moments in the history of The Beatles, which highlighted the same issues entrepreneurs would face, such as conflict within the team, and explained how these can be successfully overcome.
Mikes's amazing ability to play air guitar was a hit with the audience and he ended the presentation with a rockstar finale. After a few questions and answers, everyone enjoyed the complimentary buffet, alongside networking, as the night came to an end.
